Jothan Yamu Burobuto, a two time guild speaker of Makerere University, among other roles held at the institution, wants to register a political party ahead of 2026, Campus Bee has learned.
Burobuto, who unsuccessfully bid to contest for President of Uganda in 2021 intends to register a party named Progressive Youth Platform (PYP).
In a letter written to the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairman Justice Simon Byabakama, Burobuto expresses disappointment in the commission for frustrating his efforts to become a presidential candidate in 2021 but says it will be a conversation for another time.
He goes on to ask for a procedure to register a political party which he says is a “noble cause.”
Burobuto wasn’t available to give a comment on the proceedings but sources close to him confirmed to Campus Bee that he will not be contesting for President of Uganda in 2026.
“We want to start from home in Ishaka-Bushenyi Municipality. Community elders blessed his intentions to take up leadership but advised that he starts from home.” An insider in his camp said.
According to the elders, Burobuto must first prove to the rest of the Ugandans that he is a capable leader and he can only do that through service in parliament.
We shall keep you updated.
