“Wesonyiwe ekintu kyebayita ebaffu”, one of Andrew Julian Taliwaku’s campaign agents said after the former Makerere University Guild Aspirant polled one vote in the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Primaries in Eastern Uganda.
Taliwaku, who was previously in the Democratic Party (DP) affiliated Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), made an unusual switch to the ruling NRM who consequently granted him their guild flag for his second attempt at the students’ top job.
Our snoops in Eastern Uganda say the former Hall Chairman of Mitchell Hall at the same University was beyond shocked when he got one vote after the electorate had promised to support him overwhelmingly.
Our efforts to get a statement from Mr. Taliwaku were futile as his known numbers have been off.
Odoi Onen Mutasa, the eventual winner got 188 votes. The others in the race were Judas Wanyama who got 142 votes, Aliza Balunywa who got 117 votes among others.
Former Makerere University Guild President David Bwiruka Bala is also eyeing the same position, but as an Independent Candidate.
