Obedgui Derrick, renown Makerere University ‘strike machine’ finally graduated with a bachelor’s degree in arts with Education (Literature) during Makerere’s 72nd graduation ceremony.
Having waited for 9 years, Obedgui Derrick’s name was finally read among the graduates during day two of Makerere University’s 72nd graduation.
Obedgui Derrick’s seat was however empty as he did not show up for his long awaited graduation.
A close friend to Obedgui revealed to us that he (Obedgui) wasn’t able to make it for his graduation as he was busy with work at St Julian where he serves as the Director of Studies.
Obedgui was admitted at Makerere University in the academic year 2014/2015 and due to financial constraints and a suspension from the university, he wasn’t able to graduate with his colleagues with whom they joined in the same cohort.
Obedgui Derrick will be remembered in the history of Makerere University as one of those who was brave enough to lead student protests, a trait that got him suspended after the ‘fees must fall’ initial protests at the hill.
Makerere University 72nd graduation ceremony commenced on Monday May 23rd, 2022 and will end on Friday May 27th, 2022.
12,474 students are expected to graduate during this year’s ceremony.
