Several individuals were honored with accolades and medals during the 28th graduation ceremony of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) for academic excellence and providing the best services to students.
A total of 20 students received academic excellence awards after completing their respective courses with the highest CGPA at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Among them was former guild president Mariam Iculet Arikosi, who completed her course with a CGPA of 4.61.
Other recognitions
On behalf of the academic staff, Vice Chancellor Prof. Celestino Obua presented names to the chancellor in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the implementation of e-learning at the university during difficult times of the covid-19 pandemic.
According to Prof. Obua, the team behind the success of E-learning was supervised by the Dean Faculty of Computing and Informatics Dr. Evarist Nabaasa.
“The pandemic was a wake-up call. A team of staff worked vigorously on improving the Learning Management System, trained other staff and students on how the system works, notwithstanding its management, finally on-line teaching became the order of the day. As MUST, we plan to embrace on-line examinations as well,’’ Prof Obua said.
Mr. Baker Guma, who has worked tirelessly to transport students from Kihumuro to town campus, was recognized as an unsung hero. When MUST established its engineering faculty at Kihumuro, the majority of the students lived in Mbarara. Mr. Baker was assigned the daily task of transporting students from town to Kihumuro and vice versa.
“Mr. Baker Guma, we have trusted you with our students, and you have faithfully served where others would not want to be associated with this particular bus. I take this opportunity to recognize your service to MUST and to thank you most heartedly. You shall receive a MUST medal of honor,” Prof. Celestino Obua the Vice chancellor remarked.
