Former Makerere University student and 2021 presidential candidate John Katumba has come out to announce a peaceful protest over the continuous increase of fuel prices in Uganda.
According to a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola, Katumba is set to exercise his constitutional right by peacefully protesting over the high fuel prices.
However, Katumba did not clarify when he intends to stage the protest but our sources have reliably informed us that IGP Ochola received Katumba’s letter over the weekend.
“Due to the rapid increasing of fuel prices that have frustrated our motherland’s economy because of individual selfish interests, we, therefore, inform you that we shall practice our constitutional right of holding a peaceful protest against the above situation for the betterment of our nation.” Katumba’s letter to Ochola reads in part.
The Youngest presidential aspirant in Uganda’s history further urged Ochola respond ASAP before copying in top Ministries in the land.
Uganda is currently experiencing a fuel crisis as several pumps in the city continue to dry up. This has forced the few fuel sellers to hike prices like their life depends on it as tanker drivers are barred from entering Uganda without a COVID-19 test which costs $30.
