Following a meeting held today 3rd May at Makerere University, the French Ambassador to Uganda H.E Stéphanie Rivoal met up with the Makerere University Vice chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe whose meeting yielded an agreement to partner in hosting an international debate slated to take place in the last quarter of 2018.
This International Debate will rotate around the Geopolitics of Kampala which derives its origin from the Geopolitics of Nantes; an annual event currently in its sixth year. The six year running event has over the years been organized by the French Think Tank – International Strategic Research Institute (IRIS) and hosted by French town of Nantes.
According to the French ambassador to Uganda H.E Stéphanie Rivoal, the two-day interactive and dynamic event in Kampala will create a platform for dialogue and exchange of ideas cutting across contemporary, local and international Geopolitics.
“The event will provide a platform for researchers from France to interact and network with their counterparts in East Africa. The intellectual debate will include formal round tables, interactive and creative discussions in an open space where participants will present their ideas for discussion using the most convenient formats,” Rivoal revealed in the meeting.
The debate will engage students of Makerere University, Professors, researchers, staff, Ugandans and regional experts as well as researchers from France and Germany. Prof Barnabas Nawangwe has already nominated Dr. Eria Hisali to be the Makerere University focal person in the coordination of Geopolitics of Kampala event.
Dr. Hisali who also doubles as the Principal of the College of Business and Management Sciences (CoBAMS) was chosen because of his experience in coordination of international events and will reach out to Principals, Professors, researchers and students to come up with topics for this highly anticipated debate.
The Makerere University public relations officer, Ritah Namisango told us in a phone conversation that the dates for the debate have not yet been fixed but it is expected to go down in the last quarter of 2018.
