The 10th edition of the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) is set to start with fresh draws that have seen Makerere and Ndejje University make their return.
After two years without the league due to the global pandemic that led to the closer of all institutions of learning, university students have been anxiously waiting for the return of the most entertaining league.
Twenty two (22) universities are to take part in this competition and the draws seem not to pause a threat to many teams. There are some groups that have three university teams while others have four teams.
In the fresh draws that were conducted today (30th March), Kyambogo University landed on a smooth ride with a slot in group C of Bishop Stuart and Kabale University while Makerere University was drawn in group D with St. Lawrence, YMCA and Mbarara University of Scince and Technology (MUST).
Group A which has Uganda Christian University—the reigning champions, Victoria University that recently threatened to beat anyone who comes in their way, International University of East Africa (IUEA) and Kumi University that seems the only less of a threat.
Group B has teams like Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Nkumba, Kisubi and Muni University. Even though this group seems to have MUBS and Nkumba as the aces, Kisubi University has been training hard with coach Figo who is determined to take the team to greater heights.
This year’s edition of the Pepsi University Football League is set to start on 5th April. A lot of entertainment is highly anticipated with involvement of all the big University teams.
It should be remembered that Makerere University is returning after four years of no show after a ban in 2018 for vandalizing property at Busitema University and another ban in 2019 after the fans disrupted a play off match with Kampala International University.
Ndejje University last appeared in this league in 2016 while Victoria University has done a lot of preparations with their sports tutor Patrick Sebuliba even though UCU is focused to defending the title.
