Singer-turned-politician Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya has added an academic milestone to his career after graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration and Management from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU).
The Kakuuto County Member of Parliament for Kyotera District was among the graduands at IUIU’s 34th graduation ceremony, marking the completion of an academic journey he pursued alongside his responsibilities in music and public service.
The graduation capped years of study marked by discipline and personal sacrifice, as Lutaaya balanced coursework with parliamentary duties and a long-standing music career.
His wife, fellow singer Irene Namatovu, praised his perseverance in an emotional message shared after the ceremony. She highlighted the long nights, commitment and resilience that defined his academic path.
“I saw the sacrifices, the late nights and the moments you kept going even when it was hard. Today, your victory feels like ours,” she said. “I’m endlessly proud of you. This graduation is just the beginning.”
The ceremony also featured other notable figures celebrating academic achievements. Veteran singer Hajji Haruna Mubiru attended as his daughter, Remmie Mubiru, graduated from the same institution, drawing warm applause from the audience.
Meanwhile, Fred Sserugga, husband to singer Catherine Kusasira, also graduated after earning a degree in Law from IUIU.
The presence of public figures at the ceremony highlighted a growing trend of leaders and creatives pursuing formal education alongside their professional careers.
As graduates received their degrees, university officials encouraged them to apply their knowledge in service to society, stressing discipline, integrity and lifelong learning as key pillars of success.
