“The future is female,” is a saying that you’ve probably heard your female peers using every once in a while in reference to the different women breaking barriers at every level.
On Friday, 14th May, the Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) welcomed a new board of directors. The board will for the second successive time be led by a female chairperson.
Dr. Kevin Aanyu, a lecturer at the Department of Geology and Petroleum Studies at the College of Natural Sciences, Makerere University has become one of the four women on the seven member board.
Dr. Aanyu served as a geologist in the Department of Geological Survey and Mines, under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development from 2002 to 2004 before joining Makerere University as a Teaching assistant in 2004.
She is currently a lecturer at MUK (both graduate and undergraduate programs) and she has specialised in Structural Geology and Geotectonics.
Dr. Mary Kituutu, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, said, “I’m happy to say that the board has more females than males. This is a sign that the country trusts everyone including women.”
