Vuvuzela’s and whistles are ideally weapons of war between sports fans. When one hears the high-pitched, relentless cries of a whistle and roaring bellow of a Vuvuzela on a chilly November morning, and he also hears chants of »Go Forward. It means one thing; the JPAM» army is nearby.
On Monday evening, agents from the Amama Mbabazi camp prowled the entire Banda based Kyambogo university, registering students who would accompany the GO Foward nomination procession from the electoral commission offices to Nakivubo stadium. There would be free transport, free Go Forward flags, a free t. Shirt and 20,000ugshs. Kyambogo students took up the opportunity of making a quick killing.
On the Morning of 3rd November, hundreds of Kyambogo students assembled and were transported to the waiting point from where they’d escort their orange samurai to Nakivubo where he’d hold his first rally as a duly nominated presidential candidate. The loyal students braved the cold shivers and cold rains that turned to fully fledged rains that further turned to floods. The pitch soon got soggy and damp.
The students sought shelter while others braved the rain. The hope of earning 20k kept them going. They screamed and chanted pro Mbabazi slogans all int he hope of securing a decent meal and perhaps beers. All was well till the impatience spawned out of hunger and frustration dawned on them. The event ended and there was no one attending to them, there was neither means of transport nor the much desired twenty thousand. Still, they believed perhaps the people in charge were considering them.
After hours of impatience and a fast darkening skyline, some students were struck by the pains of reality. They’d been conned. All their class sacrifice, all their efforts were in vain. Pain and frustration soon turned to anger, which quickly turned to acceptance. The extremely disappointed students took the walk of shame from Nakivubo to Banda which isn’t a short distance …in the drizzling rain, on empty tummies and dry throats.
Most were heard cursing Amama Mbabazi and the entire Go Forward agenda for taking them for a ride and taking them for granted. ‘It is an insult to treat your supporters like this, it isn’t fair.’ a Kyambogo girl was heard lamenting while she boarded a taxi to Banda.
The boys however decided to trek the entire length of the journey. Low in energy and spirits. The agents meanwhile have since fallen silent and gone into hiding.
