Rakai — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assured Ugandans of a peaceful electoral process, urging voters to turn up in large numbers and cast their ballots freely without fear or intimidation.
Addressing an NRM campaign rally at Kibale Grounds in Rakai District on Thursday, Museveni said peace remains the ruling party’s biggest achievement and warned against actions or politics that could undermine the country’s long-standing stability.
“On the day of voting, go out and vote freely and massively. No one will disturb you,” Museveni told supporters, adding that security agencies are fully prepared to maintain law and order throughout the election period.
The President attributed Uganda’s sustained peace to the NRM’s rejection of sectarian politics, the presence of a disciplined national army and a well-organised political movement. He cautioned citizens not to take peace for granted, pointing to instability in other countries as a reminder of how quickly development gains can be reversed.
“Do not play with peace. A cow that wants to die kisses the axe,” Museveni said, urging voters to make choices that protect national stability.
Museveni linked peace directly to development, saying progress in infrastructure, health, education and economic growth is only possible in a secure environment. He said government continues to prioritise roads, water, health facilities and energy as part of its broader development agenda.
The President also encouraged voters to elect leaders who understand cooperation and prioritisation in Parliament, arguing that political infighting often slows service delivery and development.
He reiterated the NRM’s commitment to wealth creation and job creation, noting that government programmes are designed to help households improve incomes through agriculture, industrialisation and enterprise development.
Museveni is currently campaigning across the Greater Masaka sub-region as he seeks to retain the NRM presidential flag ahead of the 2026 general elections.
