The demonstration that Makerere students carried out earlier today seem to have yielded some positive results. After the University council and guild council held a crisis meeting, it has been resolved that meals in halls of residence shall not be scrapped off.
“Students shall be given meal coupons for food as usual but meals are going to be even much more better than never before,” Byamaka Musa, a guild member revealed.
“On Monday next week we are taking a formal document to the University council and if needed, to parliament, to scrap off the 10% devilish policy,” he said before concluding; “It is on that note that i thank fearless and visionary Makerereans who turned up in such big numbers today. We have won for phase one and i call upon all of you to turn up in thousands on Monday as we hammer another nail on the coffin of 10% policy.”
The university had implemented the scrapping off of meals in halls of residence because of high food prices and tuition increment of 10%.
