Friday 23rd October, attracted many from far and wide to MUBS parking lot where the fresher’s ball was to be held. Students from various universities especially MUK and Kyambogo were also spotted around. Even motorcycles were to be seen packed around the MUBS compound. This was in fact evidence that bodaboda guys had given up business for the night with the hope of getting a thorough feel of the girls. Note that some second and third year students(both male and female) were also seen around. Many attended this `ball’ with the hope of having fun. I quote `ball’ because this is in fact no ball. Nothing about it rings the word `ball’. According to me it is more like a village party. Everyone comes invite or no invite.
Smoke filled the air, booze went down like water…and the music…the DJ was not good enough or should I say he was incompetent…The speakers were not loud enough! To make matters worse, some of them were disconnected at some point of the night. Big Trill graces the night, but the combination of bad speakers and bad DJ is an omen to a musician if you ask me. Music determines how great an event is. Most people were out of party mood by the time Big Trill came on stage. A few sang along and danced. The rest just stood still and watched. The rest of the promised artists did not turn up.
However, the way many of the guys acted draws them closer to the word `beast’. They walked around with their eyes roving about looking for who to attack. No permission was required was required for them to draw their bodies close to any girl of their choice. If they felt like it, they just forcefully, unceremoniously touched (read smacked) girls’ behinds. Some even fought over girls. They were rowdy. Only hungry beasts can equal to them.
However by 3am the crowd had thinned. Most had had enough of the boredom. Even booze was no longer on sale. It was only those with no where to go who stayed around. Even the bodaboda guys had left by 3. Used cans of beer and disposable cups littered the area. Even condoms were to be seen…
So maybe some people did create memories while others only created disappointments…
