The self acclaimed best school of law in the region is yet again being haunted by the same ghosts that taunt Mzee’s government with specks like Kazinda.
Makerere Law society executive, Jothan Yamureebire started off the previous semester with accountability issues sourcing from the top.
An ambient source closed to Jothan reveals Mr Jothan borrowed lump sums of money to run his campaign when vying for the treasurer post to the point of even selling his room in Lumumba hall.
Speculation points to the likelihood of him having swindled the society’s money to pay off his debts.
Upon election into office, the executive organised the Makerere Law school annual dinner and it is at this dinner that funds to help the executive of the law society run its activities were supposed to be generated. The other source of income is the subscription by freshers in the law school which they pay upon admission to the law school.
By default, the executive treasurer is supposed to account for all monies received and spent but the treasurer did not peach as his responsibilities were curtailed by the president himself who took it upon himself to manage the finances of the society.
The corruption scandals went up to the deputy dean’s office with an investigation into the matter started. The same corruption scandal involved the society’s IGG and also halted the organising of the society’s annual porridge night and sports gala.
Mr.Jothan was said to have been interested in the guild presidency, but the fact that his pockets are so sad he could not manage.
