To 22-year-old Jolly Tumuhiire, the maid who battered one and half year old Arnella Kamanzi, Luzira Prison every Ugandan’s earthly hell is what she now relishes and ‘longs’ to stay forever.
The controversial video released recently showing this maid thrusting young Arnella with blows and kicks which left her groining on the ground with pain, has sparked mass anger mainly from nutty campusers who have now vowed to march to Luzira prison for her head.
Many are greatly disappointed in the country’s judicial system. Raquel Lagon wrote, “It’s kinda disappointed me though, I was hoping for an update saying the nanny was found dead by decapitation.” While others even have offered free execution services to the government. “I will kill her.” Mun Dior Aboukar commented on Facebook.
On 20th November, Tumuhire had been presented before Nakawa court magistrate to answer charges pertaining to torture as aligned to the Anti – Torture Act, Section 41 but was remanded to Luzira prison till 8th December.
With every second counting, Jolly’s chances of ever tasting freedom continue to run slim.
Mr Fred Enanga, police spokesperson in a press release amended her case to attempted murder, “The charge against her has been amended to attempted murder upon re-perusal by the Resident State Attorney and the pending lines of inquiry in advanced stages,” read the press release.
The maid torture video has become a conundrum in the face of many Ugandans; a dilemma between social aspects and moral stratification. Many will blame and gravely condone the maid’s act but to others, they want to listen to her tale before weighing and coming to balance.
“Nobody is born evil, if it were so, Winnie, we’d have babies come out of the womb delivering daggers and slaps to the mid-wives. We become who we are as a result of upbringing, societal pushes and influence of the people around us. As I pointed out above because we’d rather not discuss those, we think it is better to just tag the woman evil. No one, in their right sense would beat a child as she did, but the maid did anyway, was that who she is? I would like to think not. PS; I out rightly condemned her actions in the first line.” Mujuni Raymond a journalist attached to Uganda Radio Network observed,
