News circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms indicate that Makerere University, the biggest public university in Uganda is set to introduce a university uniform. This is history in the making. Makerere will be the first public university to introduce university uniform.
According to reports, the uniform must be worn by every student. No student will be allowed to enter the university premises without a uniform and no student will be permitted in any lectures without his or her school/university uniform. On every uniform, there will be a name of the student in bold easy to be read even at a distance (oh High School nostalgia just hit me).
The reports indicate MBU with effect from NEXT semester, boys will put on shirts and trousers as ALL girls will be dressed in skirts below the knees and a blouse. Sources claim that this is meant to reduce on sexual indecency especially in dressing, identification of students from the public during strikes and control of indiscipline cases from the university students because when in their uniforms, they can be easily identified.
As a student, will you embrace this new policy? Let us know in our comment box below!
