The government of Uganda has increased food allowance for Busitema Government Sponsored students from shs.4000 per day to shs.7000.
This is after the Guild President of the university, H.E Engiro Marcel addressed a letter to H.E Yoweri Museveni, the President of Uganda making the humble request.
Recently, the country registered a high rate of inflation whereby prices of almost all commodities including food items are persistently increasing. This is making life quite difficult for university students who don’t earn and yet have to make daily expenditure and consumption in order to survive.
The Guild President of Busitema University, taking this into account, found it rather necessary to plead on behalf of government sponsored students for an increase in the food allowance given.
In a letter dated 5th June 2022, he confirmed the increase from shs. 4000 to shs. 7000 per day and requested the students to responsibly manage the finances especially during these very difficult and unpredictable economic times.
Government Sponsored students of other universities have come out to question why it’s only Busitema University that has gotten the increase in the food allowance. Is it because student leaders have not come up to represent their students? Everyone wonders.
