Government through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development yesterday launched two programmes Green Jobs and Fair Labour Market Programme and the Inclusive Green Growth for Poverty Reduction Programme that are aimed at implementing green and decent employment creation, labour productivity enhancement, poverty reduction and environmental sustainability.
The launch that was officiated by Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, Minister of Gender,Labour and Social Development, Hon Janat Mukwaya at Imperial Royale Hotel was aimed at finding lasting solutions for the unemployed and uneducated youth and women.
Green Jobs is a government initiative aimed at creation of green and decent employment, labor productivity enhancement and poverty reduction.
The programme will provide an answer to the persistent absence of linkage between what is taught at school and what is required at work.
Championed by Ministry of Gender, Labour & Social Development, the programme will target both educated and uneducated women and youth and over 200,000 Ugandan workers will also get the chance to access decent jobs abroad. In addition, over 1,000 women and youth groups shall be supported with equipment and tools, training and exposure in green employment intensive works.
In her remarks, Kadaga called upon all youth to actively take part in the programmes to see that together they eradicate poverty. The programme further seeks to develop sustainable environmental and social safeguard solutions at workplaces.
