Government students at Makerere University are at risk of being evicted from their various rentals and hostel as well as starving as the University board continues to hold there living-out allowances.
Our reporter understands that non-resident government sponsored students at Makerere are entitled to a food and rent allowance which amounts to about 700,000 shillings every semester but things seem to be different this time as non of the students has received this allowance yet.
According to a one Wambedde Jacob, a government student at this University, the University always pays the allowance to the entitled students in the second week of the semester but has not been the case this semester which has left the non-resident students in starvation.
“They have delayed our allowances and we are starving because we thought we shall be having it by now and so we planned accordingly,” the disgruntled student told this reporter.
Efforts to get any University official to talk about this issue were fruitless as none was available by press time.
