Ministry of health has bowed to pressure and finally announced that all medical interns will begin their internship on August 3rd.
The announcement follows a threat from medics to lay down their tools if medics had not been deployed by the first day of August.
In a press release dated July 27th, the ministry of health disclosed that it has received clearance to deploy all the 1901 interns.
“The ministry of health has received clearance to deploy medical interns to the 58 internship centers across the country,” the press release reads in part.
According to the press release, medical interns will be accorded UGX 1,000,000 to cater for their accomodation and feeding.
The ministry of health has also released a revised deployment list and all interns are expected to report for internship on August 3rd.
Medical interns have held series of protests expressing their disgruntlement with the ministry of health over their delayed deployment.
The delayed deployment has been attributed to lack of funds to facilitate the 1901 interns.
