Yesterday 2nd February 2022, the government of Uganda completed the process of taking over Busoga University as a public university.
A team of officials from the Church of Uganda led by the archbishop Dr Stephen Kazimba Mugalu and government represented by Dr Chrysostom Muyingo signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the ministry of education headquarters in Kampala.
From the meeting, Busoga University was confirmed as a public university which will be fully funded by the state with an aim of extending higher education services to people in the Busoga region and Uganda at large. The two parties agreed to maintain the name of the university as Busoga University and all its study centers will be fully funded by the government.
A Task Force is to be formed within 30 days to handle all pending issues like clearing the debt amounting to 16Bn by government, preparing for pending graduation.
Busoga University has been added on the existing public universities such as Makerere, Kyambogo, MUST, Muni, Lira, Gulu, Soroti, Kabale, MUST and Mountains of the Moon.
