Whereas some of you might criticize Renown Socialite Sheila Gashumba for dragging NTV on Twitter over Employee Exploitation, a certain section of the Public seemed to be impressed with this move and actually got inspired to come out and complain publicly about low pay at places of work.
A very significant group that came out to complain employee exploitation are “Graduate Lawyers” or many of whom you might refer to as “Junior Counsel”. Well never let their fancy suits deceive you because we have reliable information that most of these young Lawyers earn between shs.300 – 400,000shs. as their monthly salary. To add salt to the wound, this is the state of affairs even in the biggest law firms in the Country yet their Income inflow is so high.
The bitterness in the minds and hearts of these Graduate Lawyers could be felt in their tweets. A one Iribagiza David (@Owomunshozi) in a tweet that attracted many Young Lawyers’ attention stated that “Most Big Law Firms won’t like this salary talk.” This tweet prompted many graduate lawyers to come out and attack law firms for paying them salaries that are not proportional to the demands they place upon their employees. Mr. Sseulaza a young lawyer who goes by the handle @MitchealRobert tweeted “Ba Lawyer don’t keep quiet ba dear…Tetuli bulungi!! Some of you mubeelaku saving some ka money on the photocopy money they gave you to print a client’s documents and that’s your salary.”
This only points to the fact that young lawyers have for several years been exploited by these law firms while brainwashing these young lads that practising law is not all about the money but rather experience as if it is experience that will feed them. With a strong stand on this matter, another young Lawyer who goes by the handle “Her_Lordship1” on Twitter posted “That Law Firm at DFCU Towers, NakaseroRoad has left the group chat. They even serve their experience cheques on silver platters…”
What we make of all this is that these senior lawyers who claim to be Constitutional Guards are instead violating the labour rights of their employees through low salary scales that are not proportional to the heavy work that these young lads do.
Say No To Labour Exploitation!
