By 10:00 AM this morning, multitudes of students, friends, family and administrators from Kyambogo University had gathered at the Kakumba Anglican chapel of Kyambogo University where the body of Ayebazibwe Rachel was brought in for a requiem mass organised by the Kyambogo Anglican community.
It was a moment of immense grief and sadness when the body of the late lay in the church house and individuals in their capacities began to eulogize her and the humble life she led. The brother to the late, Walter, who was living with her in Kyebando by the time of her death described her as hard-working and committed. “Many of you may be wondering why I am not crying at the moment. The truth is that I have cried enough and cannot continue anymore. Some people think that the bullet thing is a concoction but I touched the bullet in my own hands, it was from an AK47 rifle,” he described in utter sorrow sending the congregation into tears.
Representatives from Community fund, a Microfinance institution where Ayebazibwe did her internship were also saddened by her death and stood up to praise the late. “She was so committed and we at times entrusted her with huge sums of money. This is how much we trusted her,” one of them retorted. Community fund had offered Ayebazibwe a permanent job and she was supposed to start working early next month.
Other individuals who talked about Ayebazibwe included her aunt, former coursemates of Bachelor of Microfinance, the Dean of Students, and other administrators. Most desolating was when the mother of the late got up to speak. She described the loss as enormous to the family, and that Ayebazibwe was irreplaceable to her.
The congregation then prayed for the body of the late and her family, and a condolence fee of Shs. 550,000 was received from Kyambogo University to the family of the deceased. The body was then displayed for public viewing outside the chapel.
The burial for Rachael Ayebazibwe will take place tomorrow in Rwashamire, Ntungamo District. May the soul of the deceased rest in eternal peace.
