It was grief as Kyambogo University former Guild candidate and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) engineering recruit Christian Ahabwe, 24, was laid to rest.
Christian breathed his last on Friday, October 21, after seven days in a coma at Lubaga Hospital in ICU.
Christian Ahabwe who had spent three months on training, joined UPFC on July 22 alongside other professional recruits but succumbed to injuries on Sunday.
It is said that Christian started complaining of a backache before he was referred to Bombo military hospital which also referred him to Lubaga hospital where doctors said it was intestinal complications that made his brain keep swelling.
On Sunday, he went through surgery, both intestinal and brain, however, he couldn’t stay longer.
According to UPDF, Christian died a national death but the report about his death will be released later.
Engineer Christian Ahabwe was laid to rest on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at his ancestor’s home at Rutugunda, Nkambi, Kirima Subcounty, Kanungu district.
Ahabwe was among the 10,000 ordinary, and professionals recruited in June and July this year. His colleagues said he had a conviction to serve his country in the military, not just a job.
Ahabwe, according to friends, completed his studies at Kyambogo University last year. He was one of the aspirants for Guild President but lost to opposition National Unity Platform candidate Tundu Tundulu.
