The Annual Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) Meeting that started on Tuesday will be concluded today with Election of the new National Executive. This Meeting has this year been hosted and partially Facilitated by The Management of St. Augustine International University.
This annual event is constituted of Three Delegates from each University (Both Public and Private) and Three Delegates from each District Executive Committee. The District Councils also meet annually to constitute a college that elects the District Executive Committee from among members of School Councils.
In this Year’s UNSA Elections, Guild Presidents of the Biggest Universities have shied away from the Top Position of this Association. MUK’s Anna Adeke has opted to stand For Speaker, Kyambogo’s Mugabi John for Secretary for International Affairs, MUST’s Micheal Jackson Kabushenga for Finance Secretary while MUBS’ Acak Pasquin is not in for any Position. The Candidates for Presidency are: Harbert (Nkumba), Wabwire Emmanuel (Former UCU Guild President), Kunya Allan (UTAMA University), Mugabi Samson Jotham (BSU), Matanda Abubaker (IUIU) and Otto Wilson (Course Co-ordinator Kyambogo).
The other Hotly Contested Seats are Speaker and Finance Secretary.
The Meeting was officially opened by the Prime Minister on Tuesday and has had a number of presentations from among others, Education Minister Jessica Alupo, Gender Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Pius Bigirimana, Patriotism Co-ordinator Lt Col Henry Matsiko, Beatrice Lagada (Commissioner Ministry of Education), David Mafabi (Presidential Secretary), Mpata Zaidi (Senior Lecturer MUBS) and Renowned Journalist Angelo Izama among Others. The closing Ceremony was supposed to be Presided over by the President who also doubles as the Patron of this Students’ Body but has chosen to be represented by Hon Richard Todwong.
This Year’s Council Meeting, welcomed the recently passé Higher Education Financing Bill and The Youth Livelyhood Programme which they think are good for the Students today.
