Students at Northern Uganda’s hill of the learned have been taken to shock early this morning as the highly anticipated election seemed to take forever. For now two months, 7 candidates have been moving up and down trying to secure votes for the position of Guild president.
The race has not been an easy one as when it got tougher, we saw candidates like Mr. Ojengo Boniface surrender and withdraw living the race to 6 candidates.
Today being the climax of the entire journey, students sacrificed their sweet sleep rushing to main campus to vote the guild president who won over their hearts. The muddy grounds together with the cold temperatures were nothing to these gems that anxiously waited for assembling of the campaigning grounds only to wait in vain.
At about 9:00 a.m. we got to know of the inconsistencies in the electoral process as the candidate who had earlier on withdrawn from the presidential race appeared on the ballot paper making it invalid. This has left many students surprised. We could not access the speaker Rt. Hon. Mugerwa Herbert Oyat who is the current returning officer but below are some of the students ‘views.
“Mugerwa is so incompetent and corrupt he is the cause of all this mess” said one student who preferred to go anonymous.
“This is just a little problem between the printing company and the electoral commission, students should remain calm,” said Mukembo the former Guild president. “This is pure malice, its all being done to buy some candidate time,” said one Andrew.
Whether malice or mistakes or incompetence, be sure campus bee has got you covered with all the happenings. Keep it here.
