The Revamp Guild government has once again surprised the entire Gulu University students’ community with a brand new guild van.
The brand new 30-seater Toyota coaster was brought this weekend and packed at the entrance of the university’s main Campus. The coaster is a 2018 model and the procurement cost 394 million shillings. This is the best Christmas gift that the guild gave to students just few days to Christmas and many have started celebrations over the new van.
The Gulu guild government has been operating without guild transport means for over five years. The last guild van was a 15-Seater which last operated in February 2013 following a nasty accident where the car washer knocked a trailer after the van driver leaving keys in the van. In every guild campaigns, the guild van has been number one on the list of different manifestos but this dream had never been achieved.
“The previous two Guild governments planned and advocated for the same but the Revamp Guild Government put in relentless effort to make this possible,” said Daniel Mbaziira, the Guild President.
He added that the coming of this Guild van is one of the greatest achievements the 17th Guild.
“Guild activities which require transport facilities have since got serious hindrance,” said Daniel Mbaziira.
He noted that the students and clubs/associations at the university do a lot of outreaches to the community and with the coming of the guild van, this will be made easier.
This will help students to fulfill the university’s mandate of community transformation.
The guild president and his Prime Minister, Abdul Kiragga told Campus Bee that the journey to acquire this van has not been an easy one.
“In semester two of academic year 17/18, half of the payments were made to Toyota which was the highest bidder,” said the Premier of the Revamp government.
They appreciate the efforts of the new University management under Professor George Openjuru for being supportive to the students’ initiatives.
