Faculty of medicine is the most vibrant section of the university which over time, has been at forefront of activism to change the university operations for the better. Since inception of the university, for over a decade, there had be no presidential candidate until 2015 when Mr Mukembo Robert, the former guild president of 2015/16 government, dared to take up the position.
It was after then that spirit of politics took root and saw many scramble for guild positions. We started to conduct primaries in order to front a single candidate so as to give us a winning chance.
Students in the faculty got puzzled when two very influential candidates, from the faculty, stood for the same position. The two have served in previous governments and have shown strong advocacy for students’ welfare leaving faculty undecided on who to “snake”. The two failed to reach consensus and faculty declined to primaries.
“Conducting primaries gives away our strategy and we can’t do this to ourselves,” one student and senior colleague in the faculty emphasized.
Students have coiled their tails away while others retreated to their comfort zones fearing to show sides since both candidates, Noowe Johnson from Team Agenda 18 and Mbaziira Daniel of Revamp Team, are their close friends or even classmates.
“We will wait and see whose camps woos the majority students during campaigns then we will chose the most successful,” one student narrated leaving his options open to a lucky candidate.
The candidates are doing consultations and the guild Government is expected to be dissolved on 9th March as elections are expected in April.
