News reaching our desk is that the highly anticipated Gulu University guild presidential debate that had been scheduled for tomorrow has been banned. This follows a memo that has just been issued by Mr. Mpora Christopher, the Dean of students Gulu University presenting illegalities in the event.
“Politicians, political parties, religious denomination and cultural groups are never involved in the process of electing students’ leaders at Gulu University,” Mr. Mpora wrote.
He further added that the debate is supposed to be organized by the Electoral Commission and not an individual student. This, however, contradicts with earlier arrangements as Mr. Tony Olanya organized the event under two associations as earlier on mentioned in an article published this morning by Campus Bee. That is, Gulu University Parliament and Human Rights and Debate Society Gulu.
However, Byaruhanga Alex, a lawyer and an Alumnus of the University had this to say in response to the memo, “That’s against the principles rule of law and should not be accepted.” More updates about the story will be given here at campus bee. Till next time Aurevoir.
