Gulu University has officially confirmed the reappointment of Prof George Ladaah Openjuru as the Vice Chancellor for another term.
The University Secretary Obol David Otori, corroborated the news through a letter indicating that Prof Openjuru’s next term will take effect next year.
“Pursuant to Section 31(4) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), and on the recommendation of Gulu University Council at its 53d Meeting held on 29th July 2022, Under Minute 7/GUC/29/07/2022, the Chancellor of Gulu University, reappointed Professor George Ladaah Openjuru for a second five-year term as Vice Chancellor of Gulu University effective 1″January, 2023,” Mr. Obol wrote.
“We express our deepest gratitude to the Chancellor, Professor Fredrick lan Bantubano Kayanja and the University Council, for recognizing the Vice Chancellor’s outstanding & illustrious service and granting him the opportunity to serve another term as Vice Chancellor of Gulu University,” he added.
The University Fraternity congratulated Professor George Ladaah Openjuru upon his reappointment and pledged continued support, commitment and collaboration as Gulu University strives and increases its pace in the next five years, under the “Gulu University Transformation Agenda. (GUTA)”, for community transformation.
Prof George Ladaah Openjuru is an educator and academic administrator who has served as the Vice Chancellor of Gulu University since 13th January 2018.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts with Education and a Master of Education, both awarded by Makerere University, in Uganda. His third degree is a Master of Education in Adult Education awarded by the University of KwaZulu-Natal, in South Africa. His Doctor of Philosophy in Adult Education was also obtained from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
Openjuru was first appointed as a lecturer at Makerere University in July 1991. In February 2011, he was promoted to senior lecturer. He became Associate Professor of Adult Education on 1 January 2013.
As Vice-Chancellor, he replaced Professor Jack H. Pen-Mogi Nyeko, the founding Vice-Chancellor who had been serving in acting capacity since 15 January 2017, when his contract expired.
