A team of key stakeholders from Gulu University regarding the latest invention of a covid-19 herbal (Covilyce) is set to meet with President Yoweri Museveni. Led by the Vice Chancellor, Professor George Openjuru Ladaa, the brains behind the discovery are set to meet with the President to discuss the dynamics regarding the drug that is being touted as Covid 19 treatment.
Gulu University through its Faculty of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Studies led by Dr. Alice Lamwaka this week headlined the news with a herbal remedy for Covid-19 named Covilyce that allegedly works wonders within 72 hours.
According to James Onono Ojok, the university assistant spokesperson, the University team first met with the Covid 19 task force and is to extend the discussions to State House. Mr. Onono went on to dispute media reports that government had blocked mass production of Covilyce because it is not yet approved by the National Drug Authority.
He added that Dr. Lamwaka and the team are still conducting tests on selected COVID-19 patients and the drug has not been given out to the public. Onono says the team from NDA advised Gulu University to formally write a letter of notification to the Authority.
Dr. Lamwaka, the lead researcher on the herb recently said that Covilyce is made from Nasal drops, (Canal), suppositories and (Syrup) linctus among others. If approved, the local remedy will be the second after last month’s approval of Covidex.
