Following constant pressure on the university council from the district representatives, academic staff, non-teaching staff and students’ representatives over the re-appointment of Gulu University’s longest serving vice chancellor, the council has declared this position vacant in a period of just four months.
It should be noted that last year around November, Gulu university reappointed Prof. Jack Nyeko Pen-Mogi who had earlier served the same university since its establishment in 2002.
Fresh information reaching us indicate that the university council has made a U-turn after just four months of reappointing Prof Pen-Mogi revealing that his appointment was in acting capacity as the university continues the search for a substantive VC.
The council’s decision was as a result of Mr Kenneth Nyeko, a former Gulu District Local Government representative at the university council who threatened to drag the university to court for continuously reappointing Prof Pen-Mogi twice as its Vice Chancellor.
