The northern-based Gulu University has dropped the old and traditional ways of doing things. The University has discarded the old ways of operation including payments. For many years, the students have been receiving their results via the notice boards-Where they are pinned for display. Many students found it uncomfortable to have one’s name, registration number and his/her marks, displayed on faculty/university noticeboards for the whole university to see. Many times, students found photos of their results circulating on social media platforms. Very devastating it was for those with retakes.
Continuing Students have been carrying papers and registration forms as they move from one office to another, in order to get registered. Many students are forced to dodge lecturers to attend to registration; just to avoid paying late registration charges. The first year students are always roasted by harsh ‘Gulu kasana’, in the long queues, so as to register before deadline.
This will be no more. With the 2018/19 intake, the University will be using an academic software called Academic Information management system (AIMS), on which students can access their results. This will ensure privacy and easy receipt of results since students can access system on their gadgets.
More interesting, the university has made arrangements to have all students make payments online. “Online Registration and payments for all students to begin in semester one 2018/19”, said H. E Mbaziira Daniel, the Guild President of the Revamp Government 2018/19. He added that students will be given a code number which will help them access the system and more guidelines on how to use the system, will be given out to students.
