Since graduation day, 19th January, the graduates from Gulu University are worried about their survival in the outside world as they have not received their transcripts. For over four months, many have been flocking the main campus in the quest for answers. The students finished their respective programmes last year, in May, and graduated early January this year.
Campus bee interacted with one of the alumni who had not got his transcript for two years. “Some of my friends from Kampala travel more than 300km to gulu only to find that they don’t have printed transcripts”, the alumnus narrated the ordeal. “I have left more than 4 potential job opportunities to waste however all the positions I could have applied for, required my transcript”. “This has been frustrating, hectic and unproductive due to the failure of the university to procure cartridge ink for the printer”, he added.
“It is unfortunate that up to now, transcripts for students who completed their studies in May last year, have not been released”, said H. E Mbaziira Daniel, the Guild president. “As student leaders we have constantly brought this concern to the attention of the Academic Registrar”, he added.
We have also learnt that the university does not have ink, and papers for printing the transcripts. “We have engaged the Registrar who, on several occasions, said that his hands were tied because the Finances to procure printing materials were not provided by the concerned authorities. The AR had written several memos about procurement of the printing materials but all in vain”, said the President.
The only hope for graduates is the promise from the guild president who said that transcripts will be out by the end of this month. The president said that a certain company supplied the necessary printing materials on credit and officials in the AR’s department are currently working day and night to ensure that transcripts are ready.
