Matters could not get any worse for H.E Lapyem Thomas Awany, the 20th Guild President of Gulu University.
This has been a somewhat terrible time for him to go through as the elected guild president for there have been quite a number of allegations against him regarding the way he treats other guild officials.
It is alleged that he has on a number of occasions insulted, intimidated, harrased and discredited the guild officials of the 20th guild house.
His heart has been in his mouth since 27th May 2022 when the Guild Speaker addressed a letter to him summoning him to the disciplinary committee so that he could answer to the mentioned accusations.
The guild officials have resolved that H.E Lapyem Thomas be halted from carrying out his functions as the elected guild President. Therefore, the vice guild President H.E Atim Winnie Brenda will be the acting Guild President during the short time that the disciplinary committee will decide the next course of action regarding Lapyem Thomas’ behavior towards the guild officials.
This is a rather bitter pill for him to swallow as in one way or another, he seems to have betrayed the hope of the people that put him into power.
The guild prime Minister Rt. Hon Balaza Nelson notified the entire students fraternity of Gulu University that H.E Lapyem Thomas no longer has the right, privilege or entitlement to represent the Guild government as the Guild President on any official duties until further notice.
It is so humiliating that a person who was once higly respected and accorded such honor as that of a king now has to be treated as a common fellow.
Neither what he says nor does now shall be taken seriously, that is to say, that any deals done with him as the guild President will be considered null and void by the 20th Guild government.
Whether the disciplinary committee or the guild officials are being too hard on him is not a matter the students can decide. As they say, every wrong is punished. Yet though, is it a fair and just punishment?
