Gulu University held the first national Agri-entrepreneurship symposium at the main campus based on the theme: The role of higher education and the private sector in enhancing Agri-entrepreneurship and community transformation.
The two-day event, 28th and 29th May 2019 saw numerous delegates, stakeholders and participants showcase, take part in panel discussions and presentations in relation to and about agriculture, agribusiness and Agri-entrepreneurship.
Short discussion sessions on key topics such as; Nurturing young people for Agri-entrepreneurship to improve youth employability; empowering refugee communities for sustainable farm development for farm-based development; harnessing agricultural research for social economic transformation; promoting gender inclusive Agri-entrepreneurship innovations; University TVET engagement and enhancing entrepreneurial orientation for improved youth employability were also held over the two days’ event.
Participants came from the hosts came from the Computer Science department, BioSystems Engineering, Rural and Urban Development, Peace and Governance. There were also participants from Uganda Christian University with the V-Hub project that deals in agribusiness teaching and incubation model; Gulu District Farmer’s Association, UNESCO Chair, long life learning, Agripreneurship Alliance, UN Women, Uganda Young Farmer’s Association and experience sharing from refugees.
Key speakers included the CEO Vision Group, Robert Kabushenga, Gulu Municipal MP, Hon. Lyandro Komakech, Gulu University Vice-chancellor, Openjuru Ladaah, Mr Tonny Kidega of Gulu Uganda Country Dairy, Mr Kerwegi Anthony of Tecnoserve, Dr Alex Abaca of Abi ZARDI and so many others.
