Reports coming in indicate that a total of 100 people have tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 at the Gulu University laboratory following a three-day testing exercise.
According to James Onono Ojok, the Gulu University assistant spokesperson, majority of the people who tested positive are students who were returning home from several schools based in Uganda’s capital, Kampala.
Ojok added that 561people went to the university laboratory with their family members to test for COVID-19 and out of these, 100 tested positive. The testing exercise has come few days after the university sent two buses to Kampala to rescue stranded scholars who were sent back home on Monday, 7th June.
“Out of the 561 people tested in the last three days at Gulu University laboratory, 100 turned positive for Covid-19.’’ Ojok said.
Ojok further explained that majority of the positive cases are in a mild condition and many were recommended for home based care after giving them treatment. The students were urged to strictly adhere to the prevention measures set by the Ministry of Health to stop the spread of Covid-19.
Campus Bee has received reports indicating that many schools across the country had students who tested positive for the deadly virus. The schools reportedly isolated the students secretly instead of reporting the cases to the Ministry of Health.
