Gulu University Medical Students’ Association (GUMSA), the famous association that brings together all students pursuing Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, in partnership with different NGOs, brought new ingredients in the concluded Gulu University Medical Dinner 2018.
This year’s dinner was the most anticipated event of the year that left many students from other faculties ‘yearning’ to be taken on as dates.
The finalists braced themselves for anything ranging from dates, red carpet moments, crazy strokes in their face mask.
The continuing students used their little living out allowances, from government, to secure slots for the event and most were seen trying out their new tuxedos, Italian made including those who ‘imported’ their wear.
Indeed it was a unique medical dinner. Under the theme “Celebration through service”, they organised premedical dinner activities, on Friday 15th may 2018, to give back to the community by offering Medical Services, in partnership with different organizations like UBTS, Reproductive health Uganda, TASO, Youth Alive, Marie Stopes, Flama Uganda, Straight Talk etc.
They provided services like HIV counselling and testing, Reproductive health services, Family planning services, Free condoms, Cervical cancer screening, Blood donations, Safe Male Circumcision, to both students and community around University at no cost. “All these are free of charge to the students and local community around University”, Bikala Simon, one of organizers, said on .
“The dinner will be at bomah hotel and it will be at the poolside. Then the people will be putting on masks. we have great decorations, perfect cake(Red Velvet) and a dance group for entertainment and more.”, Bikala Simon a year five medical student, an organizer, emphased in an interview before the dinner. With the High gear in preparations, it was definitely the greatest students’ party in Northern Uganda.
