Sad news coming in from Gulu University is that Akena Wilfred, a third year student of Business administration got burnt in his “hostel.”

Akena who is a specialist in finance seems to have put the saving skills taught into practice as he was staying in one of the grass thatched houses around campus. Good enough he was able to survive the accident with a few injuries.

According to Akena’s neighbours, the victim lit a “tadooba” lamp after coming back from work and thereafter slept off resulting in the accident. In the later hours, the light caught the curtains of the room spreading to the grasses in the roof engulfing the hut into flames.

One of the witnesses to the rescue team says he was woken up by plaintive cries and gasps for breath as the smoke chocked life out of Akena’s body.

He was rushed to Gulu referral hospital where he is currently getting treatmen although his course mates are planning on taking him to Lacor hospital.

We wish him a quick recovery.
