About today in the morning, this anonymous Gulu University student was found in the biology laboratory enjoying jackfruit for what seemed to be his breakfast. Despite the famous laboratory rules number one being, NEVER EAT FROM THE LAB, this lad could hardly sustain the hunger any more according to the onlookers.
“He picked the jackfruit from one of the trees in the compound and rushed into the laboratory,” said one of the students who had early birded campus in preparation for examinations.
This comes in after students across most public Universities have called on the concerned parties in government to revise the amount of money (UGX 4,000 for feeding) given to government sponsored students in terms of allowances. Unlike Makerere, Gulu University students have from the start been given money instead of food since there are even no halls of residence at the University. It will be remembered that in January when the parliamentary committee of education visited the University, student leaders raised this same issue, inadequacy of Living Out Allowances and were promised a positive feedback but all efforts are still in vain.
