Campus Bee has received disturbing reports indicating that over 600 students at Gulu University have missed exams due to pending tuition balances.
Examinations kicked off on Tuesday 11th April and quite a number has not sat for them.
According to a local publication, the University Vice Chancellor Prof. George Openjuru Ladaah said that communication has always been passed to students, ahead of the exams about clearing tuition issues to avoid inconveniences.
It’s upon that basis that the university teaching staff were directed not to allow any student to sit for examinations without making full tuition payment.
However, students had bitter reactions about the move citing economic hardships.
A one Brian Kidega had this to say: “This is really unfortunate however, to the best of my knowledge, Gulu university has the lowest fees structure in the country. This is a great indicator of poverty in the country. However, I guess it’s high time we realize that university degree is as rewarding anymore.”
