The administration of Gulu University has resolved to “award” over 279 Education students out of 1,118 with retakes after they failed to pay the fine that was slapped on them by the university and thus missed their final exams.
The affected students demonstrated in April over the university’s failure to release students’ results of the previous semester on time and were suspended by the university. The university public relation officer, Ms Amelia Kiggundu, said students who missed their exams will have retakes and those who did not pay the fine will not be allowed to sit other exams in the coming semesters.
The students missed their final exams over failure to pay fine of Shs 200,000 that was imposed to renovate the main hall that was burnt during a strike early this year. However, there are some students who had paid the fine but missed their exams due to other reasons. Education students completed their examinations on July 3 and the following day immediately embarked on school practice.
