The late Jacob Oulanyah is yet to be awarded with a posthumous PhD in law by Gulu University in recognition of his outstanding contribution to legal practice in Uganda.
The development was announced by Joyce Moriko Kaducu, the state minister for primary education during an emergency meeting of local council governments in Acholi, Lango and West Nile held on Thursday last week a day to the burial of the late speaker Oulanyah.
Joyce Moriko Kaducu said the government will work together with Gulu University to award the late speaker for his contribution in legal practices and guidance he rendered to parliament.
However, Professor George Openyjuru Ladaah, the Gulu University Vice-Chancellor says the Ministry of Education has not yet engaged the University regarding the awarding of a Posthumous Honorary Doctorate of Law to the late Oulanyah and that for this to come to pass, they will need the deceased’s credentials before the senate can hold a meeting to award him.
Gulu University is soliciting funds from government to build a lecture block at the faculty of law in memory of the fallen speaker Jacob Oulanyah.
Oulanyah, a graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Makerere University served as the speaker of the guild house at Makerere as well as speaker of parliament, a position he held at the time of death.
The late speaker Jacob Oulanyah was laid to rest on Friday April 8th, 2022 at his ancestral home in Lalogi Sub county, Omoro District.
