Gulu University students under government sponsorship are on strike because of delayed allowances. The students yesterday held a strike interrupting private students who were in for lectures. They urged the private students to join them since the university administration does not deliver as expected. The outraged students defied the university request of peaceful talks saying that they had had ‘enough of the administration incompetence’. However, police arrived at the scene consequently sending the rowdy students to their respective lecture rooms.
The allowance that is supposed to be availed every end of the month amounts to shs201, 000 per student. This money caters for feeding, accommodation and upkeep for the government sponsored students.
