Students of Gulu University in Kitgum district have been unable to sit their end of second semester exams after their lecturers went on a sit down strike two weeks ago over unpaid allowances.
The over 40 lecturers are demanding unpaid allowances amounting to overShs 90 million before they can oversee the exams.
The students were meant to begin their exams on May 18th together with their counterparts at the main campus in Gulu town but they were postponed to May 25th when the lecturers began striking.
Mahmoud Khaled, the University’s Public Relations officer, admits that the strike has affected the students in terms of extra cost
of staying at campus long after the semester ended
He says there had been confusions in the accounts department regarding the lecturer’s allowances, but all have been solved, aggrieved
lecturers.
The Gulu University Kitgum campus was commissioned in 2011 with a student population of 160.
