Mwesigwa Rukutana the Deputy Attorney General was welcomed by boes and jeers from Makerere University students who are holding a demonstration over the non-interference of stake holders to have the lectures going on in the institution.
Rukutana, who was representing the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni, left the University Council meeting and on his way out attempted to address the students over the matter.
“We are handling your issues and we promise you that everything shall come back to normal again. I am the Attorney General and I am here representing the Education Minister”, the Dep. Attorney General said amidst jeers from students that had converged around him.
The Students kept screaming “WHEN!” in unison so that the Minister could specify the time limit within which the matter would be resolved.
The University Council are still engaged in a closed door meeting whose agenda is still unknown and the students are being represented by the Guild President and his Vice in that meeting.
It is also from this meeting that the Attorney General vacated amidst tight security on his way out where he gave the students that little assurance.
By press time, the University Council meeting was still ongoing and the time it was to end was still unknown.
Important to note is that the University Management, Government of Uganda and MUASA all have representatives on this Council.
