Police are using water cannons and teargas to disperse striking students at Makerere University. Police deployment at the university has intensified.

Spearheaded by a delegation from Lumumba, the Makerere students are currently moving around campus chanting “this is the day the Lord has made…’

“We shall not give up our right to education. We cleared all our tuition fees…we need to be taught,” one of the striking students chanted.

The angry students went on strike after the teaching staff vowed to maintain their stance of not entering lecture rooms until their arrears are cleared.
