The Corona Virus pandemic is one horrible happening that has raised many mixed reactions and feelings from different people at all levels. Some have interpreted it as a curse, others as a sign that God is angry at his people, others as just a disease for whites, to mention but a few.
Due to these different opinions, ideas and perspectives held towards the pandemic, some people have gone to extremes of saying that the patients and victims of the disease get shot and killed.
Such comments among other things have prompted, Laura Nagasha Barumba, one of the people that returned from United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was diagnosed with the disease has come out to justify the fact that Coronavirus is not a crime and that it’s patients should be treated as patients but not suspects or criminals.
“It’s therefore very unsettling when I see fellow countrymen in a time of crisis of COVID 19 treating it’s patients as though they are suspects or criminals instead of patients when this is the time that Africans should tap into that “Ubuntu” thing they always speak of to spread love and unity.” Nagasha said.
She also expresses her disappointment in some Ugandans who have been chanting cynical comments like “they should be shot dead” as a way of stopping the spread of the disease in the country.
“………when people are chanting cynical remarks like “they should be shot”, shouldn’t we know any better? She wonders.
Nagasha further says that, she intends to start an informative vlog in order to enlighten people about her symptoms of the disease, her workout routine, how to be hospital ready, how to remain sanitized, what to shop for quarantine and isolation, diet tips to mention but a few.
Laura Nagasha Barumba is a business lady who operates a catering company. She tested positive for Coronavirus on 29th March, 2020 on her return from United Arab Emirates where she had gone for a food expo and she has been in isolation at Mulago Hospital for 12 days.
