Heavy rain and ground breaking wind that shook Kampala on Saturday 5th January wrecked disaster on Kyambogo University as one of the buildings within the institution had its roof forcefully plucked and washed away.
This building is situated at the Faculty of Vocational Studies, Department of Art and Industrial Design near the Barclays Library.
It is rumored that the building contained unmarked examinations scripts that were attempted last semester and other important documents of students from the Department of Art and Industrial Design that may have been affected by rainwater after the roof went flying. In fact, the iron sheets were seen hanging on trees and some piled on the ground after the incident.
This occurrence has sent chills down the spines of lecturers and administrators who are contemplating on whether to administer another examination or budding strategies on how to recover the lost documents that were in the wreckage. This comes at a time when students are reporting for Semester 2 of Academic year 2018/2019.
After the incident, students went on to blame the poor state of some structures at the University which is the prime cause of such incidents at Campus.
“We all know that once a building is properly constructed, such incidents cannot occur. However, some buildings within the University are in a poor state and when roofs go off in this manner, we are not surprised. By the way, there are much worse buildings than this within the University premises,” one of the students from the faculty commented on the disaster.
By dusk, the Vice Chancellor had called on administrators and lecturers from the department to plan a way forward.
