Lecturers of Gulu University last week refused to conduct and issue
examinations for this semester; this was caused by delay of
University administration to pay lecturers’ salaries. As a result, the lecturers denied students examinations.

On Tuesday, students took the matters into their hands, the demanded the university administration to pay their lecturers. Police fired teargas to calm down the situation but all in vain, residents also tasted the tear gas for once since some students were striking off campus.
During a phone interview with Gulu university spokesman, Mr Mahmud
Khalid, through their Association Gulu University Academic Staff
Association (GUASF), they sent a report that the students were going
to do their exams regardless of whether they (lecturers) were paid.”
they later changed their minds” adds Mr Mahmud.
According to a lecturer (he preferred Anonymity) at the Faculty of
Agricultureand Environment, they keep on telling us how the cheques
have already been already signed and we are getting money soon, “we
have been waiting for money since November last year but we can’t get
anything,” says the lecturer adding,” we have families to feed and
students to pay school fees for, no one should blame us if we don’t
give students exams.”
We tried reaching the Guild president but his Phone was off, perhaps he may
have been busy looting the surrounding restaurants for (Molokony) cow
hooves.
